The Tobermory Shepherd Hut is 7.5' wide. It is built in a 16' long floor plan. designed with our modular furniture the Tobermory can be built as anything from a basic bunkie to a micro-cottage for 2.

We use a moisture resistant stain-coat and two coats of exterior clear coat finish on all our woodwork.

For our essential insulation package we insulate the entire structure of the hut for use from spring to fall. It's the right package if you just need to keep the heat out during those hot summer days and in during the cooler spring, summer, and fall nights. In our basic insulation package we use a styrofoam R5 insulation in the wall structure, as well as an batt r14 insulation in the floor and ceiling structure.
For our premium insulation package we insulate the entire structure of the hut for part-time winter use as well as improved seasonal use. In our premium insulation package we use a foil lined stiff board R9 insulation in the wall structure. as well as a batt r14 insulation in the floor and ceiling structures. In addition to this we wrap the exterior in an air and vapour barrier and the entire interior in a complete moisture barrier. We don't recommend full-time winter use without the addition of an air circulation system to expel excess moisture created by the body.
Rustic Western red cedar shakes. They are very low maintenance when left to turn silver grey naturally.

Machine sprayed ceramic impregnated polyurethane coating that is machine applied and given a manufacturers lifetime warranty on the finish. Available in any color you imagine.

For our essential series Collingwood shepherd hut we install a choice selection of beveled edge plank style laminate floors. This plank style laminate gives the very convincing aesthetic of wood without the premium price.
For our premium series Collingwood shepherd hut we install a choice selection of solid hardwood floors with a durable finish. These floors have the charm and depth of detail that only solid wood can. Hardwearing with the ability to sand and refinish, These floors will last more than a lifetime.
For the interior of our premium series Collingwood hut we use horizontally run natural pine v-match boards finished with a 2 coat clear polyurethane finish. The natural pine boards that hug the inside curves of the shell.
Thermal pane glass is set into solid cedar frames and sashes. Every board is hand picked, machined, and handcrafted by us. We use traditional cast-iron push hardware and brass window stays for a wonderfully tactile and refreshing feel. We finish the windows with a three coat hardwearing exterior finish.

Solid cedar boards are joined using time-honoured methods to make the door, frame, and sill. Like our windows, we hand-pick, mill, shape, and fasten every solid cedar board. This gives the shepherd hut an entrance that is both extremely rare and comfortable at the same time. We finish the door and frame with the same three coat exterior finish that goes on our windows.
For our essential series shepherd hut we build our entrance steps, handrail, and roof fascia from natural brown pressure treated lumber. This lumber weathers very well without any finishing or maintenance. It is available in a natural brown cedar-like color which compliments the shepherd hut well without the premium price of solid cedar. This completes the shepherd hut with charming and durable finishing details.
For our premium series shepherd hut we build our entrance steps, handrail, and roof fascia from solid cedar lumber. Cedar is the best absolute best choice for exterior applications due to its exceptional inherent resistance to decay and warping, and we take that even further by finishing the steps and fascia in your same choice of window matching exterior stain and 2 coats of exterior grade clear coat finish. We build our steps in a wedge and tenon style to give the steps a traditional craftsman handmade detail. This gives the entire hut a exceptionally detailed and complete aesthetic created from the best and materials available, and finished with outstanding craftsman style details.
For our final touch we mount a solid brass plaque on each Gute shepherd hut. We worked with a local brass smith to create and cast this symbol of the care and enthusiasm we put into each shepherd hut.
